Starting locks and looking for an online forum or community
Hey natural sistahs!
I'm crossing over from an open hair natural to a locked natural and therefore need a different kind of support forum. Can anyone point me in the direction to a locks hair care forum? I have questions on starting size, care, the do's and don'ts and would love a place to direct the questions.
I appreciate your answers.
Thanks!
M.

Its that time :(
So for the past 6- 9 months my relationship with my hair has been rocky, she's (I refer to my hair as she) been behaving in a way I'm not used to, she's breaking in places and has become unbelievably dry, she's lost her ability to take in…

My Hairline is BACK!!!!
So This was taken about 6 months after my big chop (2/17/12 BC lasted 2.5 month because my hair was under conditioned and my scalp was screaming for TLC).
I started shopping at Wholefoods (best store ever)…

My Hair Diary
I did the Big Chop three times starting in the year of 2010 and the third one was pretty recent. I decided to let my third chop be the last. I miss my curly big hair but i must say i hate when it get to the awkward stage. This stage is when your hair is long enough to put a piece on but not long enough to put it in a pony tail. This stage usually drives me to cut it all off again but I'm finding cool natural hairstyles for every length. I decided to…

CONGRATS to PYE participants (as I hang head in shame!)
Congrats to all of you who did the full 3 mths. I just couldn't. After my hair pin fiasco (see week 3) I had to switch it up and do out styles, braided, twisted etc. …

The Cost of Black Women's Hair Products
I read this article back in Feb. I was going to post this article, but due to my computer going down, I lost the information. I had forgotten that I sent it to my work computer. So now I am sending it you. Some of you may have already read this article. I think it is worth repeating. Here goes

Trying out some good ole Coconut oil
So for the past 2 weeks I been trying out coconut oil. My auntie who swears by shea butter and coconut oil for hair and skin came down from Chicago. She told me to start using it on my hair and skin to keep me looking young and fresh when I reach older age. I must say that the oil made my hair sooooo soft and it seems to be more manageable. I love it and I will continue try it out. P.S. she is 66yr…

PYE Challenge, last thoughts
I wasn't as consistent as I could have been regarding the blog posts o_o but I was able to be consistent in protecting my hair.
The PYE challenge really helped me learn that picking the right products in conjuction with protective styling is beneficial for my hair, not just protective styling. I have to be more diligent with being able to read how my hair responds to product changes in my line up.
Throughout the challenge I was protecting my ends but found…

Last Protective Challenge and PYE results
I wore my last protective style for awhile this weekend. I went out of town to the hotsprings, so I wanted something quick and that would last in the pool.
I made a twisted side ponytail into a twisted side bun ( has twist on one side and hair rolled back on the other) . Inspired by this video:

PYE Challenge: Final Week
We're finished! At points it seemed like we would never get here and then all of a sudden time flew by! lol
Well, as I mentioned in my mini-updates on the challenge blog, I ended up taking out my crochet braids and doing a wash. as I was taking out the large cornrows, i would then section off parts of that unraveled hair to put into a twist. I was putting one of my cheapie conditioners on my hair before twisting, and since it was late, i was just going to let it sit overnight…

'The 2012 BGLH "Protect Ya Ends" Challenge: The END
This challenge was fun for me and it has taught me alot about my personallity when it comes to my natural hair The challenge was also an excuse for me to become more proactive in the care and health of my daughter's hair. I will say that I'm not all that outside of wigs and waeves, I'm not all that into the look of protective styles on myself. While there are something that I wouldn't mind rocking from time to time, I personally like free/hanging hair. With that being said, I can see myself…
