Deep Moisture Method (CLOSED)

This group is dedicated to retaining length via the Deep Moisture Method.

Basically, it is a way of protective styling. This technique has garnered some amazing results. In fact, 1 woman went from TWA to waist length in 4 yrs another arm pit length to bra strap in 2 months and collar bone length to armpit length.......

Iv been struggling with super dry hair after shampoo and deem wash day the saddest day ever. Since iv eliminated shampoo, my hair is noticeably better off. Sheena's Hair Care uses Hydrate to cleanse and re-hydrate the scalp between washes - making the shampoo process completely useless. Eliminating shampoo and strictly co-washing, as needed, has changed the game for me. (i will shampoo if using silicone based products gels or non natural/organic ingredients in my hair)

Wash day is the saddest day for me. Does anyone else feel this way? It's like, ive been nourishing and moisturizing the days in-between and the wash signifies the letting go of all that good stuff. My moisture method prefers prolonged days between "washing". While regularly cleansing & re-hydrating my scalp, Im nourishing and building the cuticle of my hair to retain length and keep my hair strong.

I had never heard of the deep moisture method til now. I know I should moisturize "as needed" but lately that has meant "when I feel like it." I recently noticed a bit of a hair length plateau, just past shoulder length. And I'm pretty sure it's cause I've gotten lazy with hair care. But I'm hoping that the deep moisture method combined with my protective style will help me reach my waist length goal.

One thing I can say about my hair is that it soaks up moisture BIG time! I think I'll go ahead and implement this moisture regimen by using water and Sta-Sof-Fro as my base, then my leave-in conditioner by Kimmaytube, then follow up with my homemade Shea butter mix. I'll keep my fingers crossed! Hopefully, this will help me to retain moisture over a longer period of time.

Hair combed out after 3 weeks of DMM. I swear the 'fro has gotten bigger ;-) But combing out hurt ;-(

I do the baggying effect also but without conditioner. One time I mixed cholesterol cream conditioner, olive tea tree oil, and grape seed oil and applied to my dry hair to detangle. Well detangling was very easy, so I left the mask on my hair for a complete 24 hours. And gurrrllll, my scalp was on fire! It itch so bad. I think I left the mask in for too long and created a fungus to my scalp. To get rid of it I used Nizoral antifungal shampoo. After that my hair felt like straw but my scalp didn't itch.

The next time I did "baggying" I just used oil: coconut oil, grape seed oil, and Shea butter. I lightly damp my hair, soak it with my oils, and gently finger detangle (BTW, finger detangling is the best ever). My hair was so happy that I just two strand twisted without washing. Right now my hair is so soft, shiny, and moisturized.

@Madamenoire- what vitamin supplements u take? And what results did u see so far?

@Barbara Thanks. Yeah, I have to let my hair take a break from that. It is so delicate, so easy to break. It;s gotten better with the vitamin supplements and low maintenance protective styles. The scarf you are wearing in the picture is beautiful. I should do that more.

Also, I found this post on this site in answer to the glycerin issue.  You scared me there for a minute.

Oyin Handmade deals with the issue of people being hesitant and scared to use glycerin in the winter or in times when water molecules are not present in the air. Their solution??? Water + Glycerin

Check out their post here http://oyinhandmade.com/2010/10/11/dont-be-scared-of-glycerin/

Keep this in mind ladies. What regimes are you going to do in the upcoming winter?

I never heard the myth about glycerin, Barbara.  I just know that it feels fabulous on my hair and I love it as an overall hair, face and body treatment along with a little coconut oil and castor.

This is how I rock my protective style when my scalp needs a breather ;-) I just wish I could do something more creative ;-(
